It’s been a productive weekend, as we caught both 300 and Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles:
300
Stylish, violent, and unapologetically testosterone overloaded, in other words, typical Frank Miller. Well worth your money, for the jolly good tale and rocking soundtrack if nothing else. Sad thing was, the theater we went to had quite a few elderly “uncle” types in the audience, and it was not until the *ahem* scenes came out that we realised why. Sheesh.
On the other hand, while watching the fight scenes, one part of my mind was going: “Ooh… that’s what a proper Fendente/Mezzano cut should do the the enemy” as well as “Ooh… cool armour on the Immortals. I wonder if I can get a reproduction for the sword class.”
Speaking of armour, I think the general feel is that the best “armour” in the movie would probably be the “six-pack” armour the Spartans were (not) wearing…. XD XD XD
TMNT
Had to drag the wifey to this one, because her mental image of TMNT was pretty much fixed on the really bad 80’s rubber suit movies and the old sunday morning catoons of these old comics. But I think she was pleasantly surprised by the more mature and darker vision that’s closer to the original comics than the money-grubbing merchandising drive that reduced the franchise to a mere comedy. Kudos to Kevin Monroe for bringing the vision back to life.
Pumpkin Scissors
Well, the anime series finally ended it’s run. Despite the usual messing of timelines to fit a proper finale for the season, I think the series was pretty well done. However, it did end on a rather low note, with many questions unanswered ~ who are the villans, and what do they want? Animation quality on average is good, as expected of Gonzo Studios and I’ll be looking forward to the next season.

yeah i’ll be looking forward to the next season of pumpkin scissors too…
meanwhile go finish up kanon 2006! kyoani’s next work starts airing on 8 apr: lucky star! dun miss it XD
