Just caught Ghost Rider, and came away… not too impressed. I suppose that the glut of superhero movies these last few years has made me somewhat jaded towards the whole comic-to-movie adaptations. But still, I’d give it an “A” for effort. Though I’ve never read many of the Ghost Rider’s comics nor his origins backstory, the plot of the movie was pretty transparent ~ to me, anyway. Pretty ok F/X, and great soundtrack.

Wifey was pretty impressed that Nicholas Cage was so… rippling with muscles, for a man his age.

Final verdict: 3.5 / 5 ~ worth the price of a weekday ticket.

Movies soooo bad, it’s gotta be gooood
Anyway, besides the list of shows that I would like to catch above, there are a few movies of questionable… quality that caught my interest:

+Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters
+Grindhouse
+Balls of Fury

An Aspiring Swordsman
Off to sleep now ~ meeting up with some of the PHEMAS guys tomorrow at the tailor and leathersmith for historical kit fitting ~ and to pick up my new gloves, and order a complete set for wifey. I figure with all the work we’re giving the leathersmith, sooner or later he’s going to turn into a first-rate armourer!

Hmmm….

Wired blog Game | Life cites a survey conducted by Gametart, UK’s largest online games rental company, whose initial purpose was to measure the impact of the pink PSP and the Nintendo DS on gamers’ sex lives across England. The survey threw up some interesting findings.

Of a 200 women sample, those who played video games on average had sex 4.3 times a week while those who didn’t play games only had sex just 3.2 times a week.

The survey also revealed that those gamer girls who started playing games recently have sex more often than before.

Now, you know it. Next time you see a girl getting a pink PSP and Nintendo DS at your local game store, follow her. You have more chances to score with that one than with a non-gamer girl.

Had some of the Society guys over at our place yesterday ~ thanks to Yi-Hau for his wonderful Pasta sauce, and points to Shalom for reliably getting lost. Again.

Yi-Hau vs Larry in Abalone

As a side note, Yi-Hau & Joshua seems to love the Abalone game… so much so that we ended up late to sword class because they kept playing, earning 50 push-ups as a result…

Was on duty yesterday, so I’m spending today resting up.

Reunion Dinner was as usual at Mom’s; but Dad had to rush a poject, so he’s stuck in Cambodia this year.

The two furkids had a grand time at Mom’s though:

I’ve pretty much narrowed my choice of steel sword down to Pavel Moc’s Violet or Embleton:

Now to see how much it’s gonna cost….

Well, the Topi Mikkola workshop yesterday went very well ~ we were all able to learn much from him and I feel that I have come away with a better understanding of swordsmanship.

Hoever, the workshop was not without it’s price ~ I am now in pain. Everywhere. It was all we could do to lie down and groan when the session ended at 5pm…. having started at 10am earlier. And not to mention slightly hungover from the drinks and feasting last night.

And now, to buy me a steel sword :D

Mwahahahaha!!!!

We’re having a Chinese New Year “Open House” for the society guys next Tues… and Greg is considering moving the training time to the morning, and have coming over in the afternoon to drink themselves blind. I don’t think my liver can take any more of this boozing… not as young as I used to be…. *groan*

Thank goodness for the Roomba.

Tess wasn’t too impressed with it though…

Random Rumblings 7:00 am

We had a little informal get-together with some of the PHEMAS chaps last night, partly to socialise, and partly as a welcome for Topi & Heli to Singapore.

The venue was Brewerkz, a place that’s always great for food and drinks:
Topi & HeliYi-Hau trying a sip

The fun bit was Anthony & me giving Yi-Hau a quick crash course in drinks & socialising. It’s hard to remember that we were once young and “inexperienced” like him, so we went a little overboard with the ribbing. But it’s all in good fun, hey? (Next time, we bring him to Hooters ;) )
Yi-Hau looking dubious about the beerYi-Hau's Fruit Beer

We adjourned later to Highlander, a oddly appropriate name for a place, considering what our little community does for a hobby“There can be ony One!”

Slept at 4am, and woke at 12noon. Refreshed and no hangover, which is nice. Hope to do this again, and further Yi-Hau & Joshua’s “education :D

Nothing new there… what surprises me though, is “Why the hell did I score so low?”

Boots, Belts, Gloves… Oh My!
Meeting up with some of the Society folks later tonight to collect my boots from the leathersmith. I’m getting really excited about the upcoming Topi Mikkola Workshop this Sunday:

Its with great pleasure that we announce that the upcoming Week 6 workshop will be helmed by SESH Provost Topi Mikkola.

Event will be on 11th Feb 2007 at EA MP Hall (The Salle). Commences at 10.00 am and concludes at 5.00 pm.

Fees are $80.00 for students and public and $60.00 for PHEMAS members. Lunch will be provided.

There will be much feasting and drinking after the workshop, though I hope not too much as the next day’s goning to be a working Monday (should have applied for leave… crap).

I’ve been “chosen” to helm the boardgame competition to be held during the feast (after the workshop), and with consultation it has been decided that the game shall be Frag:

Frag... if it moves, shoot it

For those not playing for the top prize, there will be side games of Fluxx and possibly Drakon.

You Are Very Worldly

You’re an international jet setter - or pretty darn close.
And while you may feel like you have many more places to visit…
Most people live their whole lives without seeing what you’ve seen.
In fact, you’re probably going to be traveling again soon. So Bon Voyage!

Yes. I need another holiday. *Soon*.

Random Rumblings 8:51 am

Funny thing happened this morning; there I was, walking my dogs when I rounded a corner and met a couple of ladies. They made a fuss over the dogs (nothing unusal), but that done, the introduced themselves as Jehovah’s Witness , and said they wanted to share the word of God with me.

Fine, I thought, and I replied “Sure, but in exchange, I would like to talk to you about my religion as well, how about that?”

Their faces turned black and immediately both stomped off, muttering under their breath…. O_o

Why is it that zealots are so insistant on sharing their faith, but are reluctant on letting others share theirs? I mean like, “Where’s the *Love*, man?”

Religious tolerance is a two-way street, especially in our multi-cultural/racial/religious society, so a little grace and understanding goes a long way. Extremism is not the way to go.

*edit*
Wait… I just remembered, isn’t Jehovah’s Witness banned in Singapore? Is it legal for them to be proselytizing in the streets???!!?
