Since we’re both heading up to KL next weekend (myself for work, and wifey for shopping), we celebrated mum-in-law’s birthday a week early at Big Fish, over at East Coast.

Big Fish PlatterGrilled Lemon Solefish

A great eatery, it’s food style is very much like that of Fish & Co. but with it’s own distinct taste. It was packed when we went, so the table reservations in advance is a great idea.

Highly recommended!

Shopping!
We were out shopping earlier in the day, and came across a rather interesting boutique: Granny’s Day Out. Featuring real vintage clothes, assessories and bags brought in from Europe, America and Australia, it’s a quirky and unique store that has a very retro feel (right down to the 1970’s style Air-con controller on the wall!) making it an adventure just to browse through the selection. Featuring completely unique pieces, both second-hand and first-hand dead stocks, each piece is individually tagged by the owner Ms Loh Hsiao Ying with a short description on the price tag. In the end, bought 2 wrap-around skirts and a singlet for wifey.

While we’re still in a dizzy over the whole NYP Sex Scandal issue(NO, I DO NOT HAVE THE CLIP!), I thought this might be worth a look:

People Enjoy Porn More on their Phones, Sez Google

In Google’s recent efforts to take over the world, they are taking on the next step: the mobile phone market. To help their fight for global Googality, research is being done on the type of queries being performed from mobile phones. The numbers are showing that the mobile users are more likely to search for adult content compared to other Googling mediums. A large 20-percent of all Google searches from mobile phones are related to adult content, compared to 8.5-percent from personal computer users and, 5-percent of queries from a PDA. Google explains these numbers by suggesting that the mobile phone is a more personal device compared to the personal computer, but wouldn’t the PDA also be considered a more personal device?

So… perhaps we don’t have to film it, but just Google and download it?

Was something inspired by our dinner on Sunday at the Moonfish Seafood and Pasta Restaurant over at Millennia Walk:
Baked Chicken Rolls
Basically:
1) Fillet of Chicken, rolled with sliced mushrooms and wrapped with bacon.
2) Season with salt, pepper and brushed over with honey.
3) Arrange on tray and bake for 10~15 minutes.

Easy, delicious and all done in less than 20 minutes.

www.guimp.com

This has got to be the world’s smallest website ~ it measures a whopping 18 x 18 pixels!

And you know what the coolest thing is? It’s got games… with colour graphics… and sound… on the same 18 x 18 pixel real estate. I kid you not, go on and try these out:

Pong
Pac Man
Asteroids
Space Invaders
Break Out
Pinball

The list doesn’t stop there, so go on and have a look. Headaches after viewing expected!

Isn’t technology a great thing? All because some dumb twit can’t figure out where I’m posting from, he leaves a rather offensive comment. Not that I mind, ‘cos that just shows what a moron he is ~ until someone else leaves another yet stinger for the first moron. Now I’ve got this bloke trying to prove his point, that the site’s spaminator caught:

Don’t be dissing Australia, bastard. You just showed us some racism right there. ;-)

I’m from Sydney myself, and your post insulted me so much, that I FUCKING HATE YOU!

Stereotypes are a bitch, huh?
“Get off’a my property, y’all!”
It can be thrown both ways. =)

More onto the topic:
The PSP is incredibly overpriced when coupled with all of the accessories — No one is denying that.
Maybe the $100(AU) pricetag is just a gift to us Australians, who knows!
No doubt that this new sized memory stick will be at least two-and-a-half times more expensive.

So, let’s give it up for Scatt-Man, a guy who can’t tell the difference between 3 people.

I love you too man ;)

Good Sport
Bruce and Sheila have been seeing each other for a while and Sheila asks Bruce to meet her on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Sheila: I’ve got something to tell you, Bruce…I’m preganant and if you don’t marry me, I’m going to jump off this bridge into Sydney Harbour.
Bruce: That’s what I like about you, Sheila. Not only are you a great shag but you’re a good sport too.

Q. What do you call an Australian with a sheep under one arm and a goat under the other?
A. Bisexual.

Australian foreplay
Australian foreplay - “Brace yerself Sheila.”

Q: What’s the difference between yoghurt and Australia?
A: Yoghurt has a real live culture

Drunk

Brain Surgery
An Englishman wanted to become an Irishman, so he visited a doctor to find out how to go about this. “Well” said the doctor, “this is a very delicate operation and there is a lot that can go wrong. I will have to remove half your brain”. “That’s OK” said the Englishman. “I’ve always wanted to be Irish and I’m prepared to take the risk”.

The operation went ahead but the Englishman woke to find a look of horror on the face of the doctor. “I’m so terribly sorry!!” the doctor said. “Instead of removing half the brain, I’ve taken the whole brain out”. The patient replied, “No worries, mate!!”

Finally done moving the old posts from the old site to this one.

All entries starting from June 2004 to August 2005 are there, sans comments (I’ll move them once I figure out how, but just in case I can’t you can always go back to the old site ~ I won’t be deleting for a while, despite the spam and all).

Hot Topic of the Day
The radio and newspaper has been flooded about the NYP student in sex-video thingy today, despite the news being broken yesterday by blogger ghost. Having seen the video (1. NO, I DO NOT HAVE A COPY. 2. NO, I WILL NOT TELL YOU WHERE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT. LOOK ELSE WHERE.), I could only form one thought ~ these kids are awfully young to be doing something like this.

What is our world coming to?

Not quite Valentine’s Day dinner… but we worked late on Tuesday, so I guess this will have to do?
Porkchops, with side of Mashed Potatoes and Peas

Oh, and made Molten Chocolate Cake attempt #3 for dessert. Used a new recipie, and tried using one of those egg-beater thingies… which being a $3.50 product from NTUC, fell apart after 5 minutes. But the attempt turned out pretty well better than before. I think I’m getting the hang of it now ~ probably I’m not beating the eggs enough. Probably going to Carrefour over the weekend to buy one of those electric hand-blenders.
Looking good...Success! Sorta...

The Furkid’s Trip to the Dentist
Brought them over to the vet for teeth scaling last friday. Total damage: $628.00

Ouch.

That does it; they’ll get their teeth brushed everyday from now onwards.

New Restaurant!
JE & Cheryl's placeWell, not exactly new as it’s been around for a while in the neighbourhood, but it’s the first time we’ve tried it. Serving excellent French Food and Wine, it’s located right along Balestier Road. Feeling like it’s run like a little family business (heck, the waitstaff, manager and chef all looked alike!), it still manages to serve up wonderfully French food and has an impressive range of wines to go with just about anything you might want to order.

Seeing as I’m in the military…

You scored as Special Ops.

Special ops. You’re sneaky, tactful, and a loner. You prefer to do your jobs alone, working where you don’t come into contact with people. But everyonce in a while you hit it big and are noticed and given fame. Your given the more sensitive problems. You get things done, and do what has to be done.

Found this while sorting through my shelf the other day:
D&D Rules Cyclopedia
This is the grand-daddy of D&D, the first edition, the compilation of all the rules since the “Red Box” sets.

Ah, the memories. :D

Speaking of which, I came across this little quiz that helps you decide your character race & class in D&D 3rd Ed. According to it:

I Am A: Lawful Good Human Ranger Fighter

Alignment:
Lawful Good characters are the epitome of all that is just and good. They believe in order and governments that work for the benefit of all, and generally do not mind doing direct work to further their beliefs.

Race:
Humans are the ‘average’ race. They have the shortest life spans, and because of this, they tend to avoid the racial prejudices that other races are known for. They are also very curious and tend to live ‘for the moment’.

Primary Class:
Rangers are the defenders of nature and the elements. They are in tune with the Earth, and work to keep it safe and healthy.

Secondary Class:
Fighters are the warriors. They use weapons to accomplish their goals. This isn’t to say that they aren’t intelligent, but that they do, in fact, believe that violence is frequently the answer.

Deity:
Mielikki is the Neutral Good goddess of the forest and autumn. She is also known as the Lady of the Forest, and is the Patron of Rangers. Her followers are devoted to nature, and believe in the positive and outreaching elements of it. They use light armor, and a variety of weapons suitable for hunting, which they are quite skilled at. Mielikki’s symbol is a unicorn head.

Wifey is Stressed
Tess keeping mummy company while she worksOn the work front, things aren’t going so well for her, as two of her bosses seem to be gunning fo a showdown, with my poor dear in the middle. Here’s wishing we strike the $10-million Toto draw by Singapore Pools. If that happens, she can then happily quit her job and be a Woman of Leisure (her words, not mine).

Until then, looks like we’ll have to continue working, although the doggies seem to be excellent stress-balls for wifey to relax with.

Gym again today at the club with wifey, and muscles not so sore this time. Bad news is, the weight is winning ~ 73.6Kg ~ gotta trim it down to 70Kg, or better yet, 65Kg. Need more cardiovascular workouts, I guess.
Changi Beach ClubSunset at the club

Met the in-laws later at the club’s restaurant for dinner, and the food was much better than before ~ they probably changed the cook or something? Still, have to watch my/our diet. Was a glorious sunset, all golden over the East Johor Strait, with strong, cool winds due to the Northeast Monsoons.

Speaking of diets, we found a wonderful Ice-cream deli (terrible! Oh, the temptation!) at Serene Centre, the Island Creamery, featuring local tastes like Horlicks, teh tarik and others. The stuff was wonderful, deliciously creamy yet light and full of flavour. I had an “Extremely Banana“, while wifey went with “Teh Tarik“, and at SDG$2.50 for a single scoop, it’s pretty affordable. The concept of local flavours of ice-cream is a nice touch, as I think we’re pretty saturated with the current Italian gelato fever sweeping across the island… I’m just not too sure about the “Tiger Beer Sorbet“…

Must. Resist. Going there. Too often…. Arrrgh!
~sigh~

When my friends and I were young(er), we used to hang out at game shops every weekend, and it would be painting, wargaming, and/or roleplaying. Now that we’re old(er), with jobs and families, with all the duties and responsibilities that follow, we find lesser and lesser time to meet up and indulge in these activities. My painstakingly painted Warhammer miniatures sit in glass shelves, abandoned and gthering dust; my D&D and other RPG rule sets rest in the bookcase feeding only my personal imagination rather than a shared fantasy between friends.

It’s hard… and painful… to watch what was our passion and hobby waste away this way, but the most painful is to not see my friends so often anymore. The truth is, I treasure my friends. I’ve had many friends in the past, but along the years many have disappeared and dropped out of sight. The handful that I know today are very precious to me, for they have been with me these so many years, through good times and bad, and these are the few that I will call true friends.

We still do meet up every weekend, but now only virtually, thanks to the wonders of technology, to play games again online:
Games we play todayMore gaming action

But it’s just not the same. To see the faces of your friends, to connect, to chat and argue over coffee; these are the personal interactions that I miss. I also miss the feel of dice in my hand, the excitement and jeers and witty conversation.

We met up again today, after a long time, for Brian had to babysit his students at the Robotics competition at Funan Centre and the few of us spent an enjoyable afternoon playing Bang! a card game. I just hope we can meet up again more often…

This is for my friends; may we always be so.

… was Steamed Rice with sides of Onions and Button Mushrooms in Teriyaki Sauce, Steamed Rabbitfish with Sesame Seed Oil and (the best!) Stir Fried Black Pepper Prawns with Carrots.
Dinner!Black Pepper Prawns

The best was probably the Black Pepper Prawn, made with succulent prawns, sliced carrots and pre-packed sauce from Lee Kum Kee.

Much of what we’ve been eating for the past few days have been traditional foods for the festive period. Prawns, Rabbitfish, Chinese Red Leeks, Perserved Sausages, Barbecued Pork, and other assorted pastries.

Lucky thing wifey dragged me down to the gym yesterday ~ though I’m aching all over right now, the exercise will do me good as we’ve been gorging on all these sinfully delicious food during the festive period. A quick weigh on the machine revealed that I’m 3 kilos over weight… probably from the dive trip routine of eat-sleep-dive plus festive food right after.

~sigh~

Time to don the running shoes…
